Angie Stone
Angie Stone (* the thirtieth January 1961 in Columbia , South Carolina ; actually Angela Laverne Brown ) is an American hip-hop - R'n'B - and soul - singer .
Career
Stone first gained fame in the early 1980s as a member of the hip-hop group The Sequence. The band was considered one of the first female groups in its genre and was able to land a hit in 1980 with Funk You Up . Stone was later a member of the R&B trio Vertical Hold. Further success came with the single Seems You're Much too Busy .
Stone released her debut album Black Diamond in 1999. The album was not commercially successful, but was positively rated by critics for the processing of stylistic Ol'School elements and her singing and was nominated for a Grammy . After changing their record label, the albums Mahogany Soul (2001) Stone Love (2004) followed under J Records . In November 2005 she released her best-of album Stone Hits .
