J Records

J Records was a music label belonging to Sony Music . It was founded in August 2000 under the BMG label by Clive J. Davis , although BMG only owned 50% of the shares in 2005 due to the merger to form SonyBMG . In 2001, Alicia Keys was the label's first solo artist under contract. Performers such as Luther Vandross , Rod Stewart and Leona Lewis followed . In 2008, Sony's merger with BMG was revised and Sony initially took over the label in July 2011 under the umbrella of the RCA Music Group , a label founded in 2004 that signed artists from the earlier labels Jive and Arista Records , among others . In October 2011, the complete integration into RCA Records , a label belonging to Sony Music, followed, whereupon all interpreters of J Records received a new contract with RCA.
