Wyclef Jean
Nelust Wyclef Jean (* 17th October 1969 in Croix-des-Bouquets , Ouest ) is a Haitian hip-hop - musician , songwriter and producer .
Career
Together with his cousin Pras Michel he founded the band Tranzlator Crew and wrote his own songs and lyrics. Although Jean was considered very talented from the start, success was a long time coming until the group Fugees (with Pras Michel and Lauryn Hill ) was founded. In 1993 her debut album Blunted on Reality was released . The trio's breakthrough came in 1996 with their second album The Score .
In 1997 Jean began to focus on his solo career. He released the album The Carnival and coupled hits like Gone till November and a cover version of Guantanamera . He also collaborated as a member of the Soul Assassins with DJ Muggs from Cypress Hill . In the following years he managed to develop his talent as songwriter, producer and remixer for Destiny's Child , Sublime , Simply Red , Whitney Houston , Michael Jackson , Eric Benét , Mýa , Carlos Santana , The Black Eyed Peas , Akon , Ivy Queen , Sinéad O'Connor , Tom Jones and Mick Jagger to prove it.
On the album The Ecleftic , released in 2000 , Jean received support from artists such as Youssou N'Dour , Mary J. Blige , Kenny Rogers , Earth, Wind and Fire and wrestling star The Rock . On July 9, 2006, he sang the song Hips Don't Lie with Shakira at the final ceremony of the soccer world championship . Wyclef Jean re-recorded the song L'aurora for the Eros Ramazzotti best of album E2 , which was released in October 2007 . With Serj Tankian , the singer of System of a Down , Wyclef Jean recorded a song called Riot ; it is on Wyclef Jeans album Carnival II - Memoirs Of An Immigrant , which was released on November 23, 2007 in Germany.
Private life
At the age of nine he moved with his family in the New York district of Brooklyn . In 2008 and 2009 he had financial problems. His beachfront property in Miami Beach was set to be foreclosed in 2008. The forced sale did not take place after negotiations with the bank involved. On March 19, 2011, Jean was shot and injured in the hand in Port-au-Prince . Wyclef Jean has been married since 1994; the couple adopted a daughter in 2005. Jean has three siblings.
social commitment
In 2001 Jean founded a charity called Yéle Haiti (in German roughly "Schreie Haiti"), which was shut down in 2012 after an investigation by the New York Attorney General for embezzlement of donations. The organization had set itself the goal of using music, sports and media to create small but effective projects in Haiti, Jean's native land, which would promote the long-term development of Haiti from the point of view of education, health, the environment and Support community work.
After the severe earthquake in Haiti on January 12, 2010 , Jean recorded a benefit single with Mick Jagger and organized a big benefit rock concert on January 22, 2010 under the title Hope for Haiti . Other performers at this concert were Christina Aguilera , Sting , Bono , Justin Timberlake , Alicia Keys and George Clooney .
politics
In the elections on November 28, 2010 , Jean intended to run for President of Haiti. After registering as a candidate, he said to supporters, "I want to tell President Barack Obama that the US has Obama and Haiti has Wyclef Jean." Jean spent five years of his life in Haiti. According to a previously published report from a member of the electoral body, Jean does not meet all the necessary conditions for admission to the election and is therefore not put on the list of candidates.
