The Ecleftic: 2 Sides II a Book is the second studio album by Haitian hip-hop musician Wyclef Jean . It was released on August 18, 2000 on the Columbia Records label as a standard and special edition, including five bonus songs and three music videos .

Wyclef Jean himself and Jerry Duplessis acted as executive producers on the album and also created almost all of the instrumentals together , with the support of Sedeck as co-producer. Only the beat for the song Where Fugees At? was produced by Salaam Remi.

Cover design

The album cover of the standard edition shows Wyclef Jean, who is wearing blue overall and looking at the viewer. To the left and right of his torso there are black stripes and the words Wyclef Jean and The Ecleftic in black. The background is completely white. The cover of the special edition adorns the same motif, but here the background is beige and there is also the black lettering 2 Sides II a Book on the upper edge of the picture . On the left of the picture there is also the note Special Edition in red.

Guest Posts

In addition to Wyclef Jean, other artists appear on eleven or 15 tracks on the album. The singer Mary J. Blige can be heard on the song 911 , while Da Cypha is a collaboration with Marie Antoinette, Supreme C and Hope Harris, the latter is also featured on Perfect Gentleman . The band Earth, Wind and Fire and the R&B duo The Product G&B can be heard on Runaway . Youssou N'Dour and MB² support Wyclef Jean on Diallo , while The Rock and R&B duo Melky Sedeck have guest appearances on It Doesn't Matter . The track Low Income is a collaboration with Beast and the 718 crew, and Small World is featured on Thug Angels and Hollyhood to Hollywood . In Skits also include Kenny Rogers and Pharoahe Monch and Whitney Houston to hear.

The special edition also features the Refugee Allstars in the songs We Trying to Stay Alive and Guantanamera , while rapper Canibus has a guest contribution on Gone Till November (The Makin 'Runs Remix) . Perfect Gentleman (Remix Radio Edit) is a collaboration with rapper Xzibit and dancehall musician Yellowman .

The Ecleftic: 2 Sides II a Book entered the German album charts at number 20 on September 4, 2000 and occupied positions 23, 29 and 39 in the following weeks. Overall, it stayed in the top 100 for 32 weeks with interruptions. In the USA, the album occupied position 9 in the charts and stayed in the top 200 for 30 weeks. The album also reached high chart positions in Austria, Switzerland and Great Britain.

Four songs from the album were released as singles . These were the songs It Doesn't Matter (DE # 47), 911 , Perfect Gentleman and Wish You Were Here .
