Pharoahe Monch (born October 31, 1972 in Queens , New York ; actually Troy Donald Jamerson ) is an American rapper .

He is known for his complex rhyme schemes. He was a member of the crew Organized Konfusion and later a solo artist on the Rawkus Records label . He became known through the singles Simon Says and The Life (together with Styles P. ).

Organized confusion

In 1991 Troy formed the Duo Organized Konfusion together with Prince Poetry , which became successful in the New York underground. They released three albums: Organized Konfusion , Stress: The Extinction Agenda and The Equinox . The duo produced many of the songs themselves. Their albums had moderate sales figures, so that they parted ways after their third album, which was released in 1997. Shortly afterwards Pharoahe Monch signed a contract with the independent label Rawkus .

Rawkus Records

After Pharoahe Monch had several guest appearances on albums like the Soundbombing Compilation , he finally released his debut album Internal Affairs in 1999 . The first single Simon Says became a big hit. This single appeared again in 2000 on the soundtrack for Charlie's Angels . Other singles were Behind Closed Doors and The Light . In 2001 his song "What Is the Law" appeared on the Oz soundtrack. In 2002 he was in the song “H! Vltg3 “on the Linkin Park album Reanimation before it went quiet for a few years.

Street Records Corporation

On June 27, 2007, his second solo album Desire was released after about eight years . It was supposed to appear in 2005, but the date has been postponed. Pharoahe Monch was now under contract with the SRC (Street Records Corporation) label, where Akon , the Terror Squad and David Banner are under contract. The first single Let's Go was produced by the Detroit-based Black Milk; the second single, the theme song Desire , from The Alchemist .

WAR Media

In 2011 and 2014 two more albums by Pharoahe Monch were released, both on his own label WAR Media: WAR (We Are Renegades) (published in cooperation with Duck Down ) and PTSD - Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder .
