Xzibit
Xzibit [ ɛɡˈzɪbɪt ] (real name Alvin Nathaniel Joiner; born September 18, 1974 in Detroit , Michigan ) is an American rapper , actor and television presenter .
Life
Xzibit was born in one of the poor neighborhoods of Detroit . There his mother died when he was nine years old. On his album Man vs Machine , he dedicated a song to her. His father then remarried but started beating him. As a result, the father's guardianship was withdrawn and Xzibit was sent to a home. He later processed these experiences on the albums At the Speed of Life (in which he attacked his father) and 40 Dayz & 40 Nightz (in which he was reconciled with his father, who can also be heard on the album). At the age of 14 he left home at his own request to move to his sister in Los Angeles . He earned the money for the trip by trading drugs.
Xzibit is the father of three children. His second son, Xavier Kingston Joiner, died on May 26, 2008 at the age of eleven days due to poor lung function .
Career
Xzibit began his career as a member of the Likwit Crew , alongside the Alkaholiks and King Tee , among others . He had his first officially released appearance on the song Freestyle Ghetto on King Tee's album IV Life . He then went on tour with them in 1995 and the next year his debut album At The Speed of Life was released on Loud Records . The album, especially driven by the single Paparazzi , which was particularly successful in Germany, is considered by many to be an underground classic.
When he released the successor 40 Dayz & 40 Nightz two years later , he was considered one of the most promising talents in West Coast rapeseed. This made Dr. Dre noticed him, who first placed him on a song he produced on Snoop Dogg's album No Limit Top Dogg (Bitch Please) . By the positive response encouraged it first featurte him on his own album in 2001 and took him to the Up in Smoke Tour , alongside artists such as Snoop Dogg, Eminem and Ice Cube , before he decided to convert, Xzibit's third album, Restless to to produce. The album was a huge success , supported by the single X , and sold nearly two million copies in the US. Dr. Dre also took care of the fourth album Xzibits, Man vs Machine , after this breakthrough . However, the sales dropped so that he was no longer involved in the next project, Weapons of Mass Destruction .
Nevertheless, he started his acting career after this album and also hosted the MTV series Pimp My Ride . Despite its increased popularity, Weapons of Mass Destruction again sold poorly, which he attributed to a lack of support from his label, so that he separated from it and released his last album Full Circle for the first time independently on Koch Records . But even the now independent promotion of the album could not stop the commercial downward spiral and he now only sold about as much as on his first two albums.
Since he had founded his own label called Open Bar Entertainment before Restless was released, he finally wanted to release the album of his group, the Golden State Project , which had existed more or less since 1996 , consisting of himself, Ras Kass and Saafir. It never appeared, however, as Ras Kass's label Priority Records banned it from being released.
He therefore founded a second group, Strong Arm Steady , before Weapons of Mass Destruction , of which he, Mitchy Slick , Phil the Agony and Krondon were members. With her he published countless mixtapes as well as a compilation of the best songs of these. However, he separated from the group in 2006 due to differences in the choice of label.
In 2012, Xzibit released a new single, which he recorded with Travis Barker, under the title Napalm . The seventh solo album of the same name was released on October 5, 2012 and also contains the second single Up Out the Way .
