KRS-One (born August 20, 1965 in Park Slope , Brooklyn , New York City ; civil Lawrence Parker ) is an American rapper , music producer and former graffiti writer . He also uses the pseudonyms Kris Parker, The Blastmaster, and The Teacher. KRS-One is particularly noticeable because it formulates social and political ideas about the scene in a pointed manner. He enjoys great recognition within the scene.

Life

Parker ran away from home at a young age and moved to the Bronx . His most famous pseudonym he adopted at this time as days when graffiti spraying on. He signed as KRIS-One , which evolved into its current form via KRS-1 . The KRS-One stands for Knowledge Reigns Supreme Over Nearly Everyone . Together with social worker Scott Sterling (DJ Scott LaRock), KRS-One founded the group Boogie Down Productions (BDP). Their first album Criminal Minded mainly contained battle raps and tracks about crimes such as 9mm Goes Bang (" wa da da deng wa da da da deng, listen to my nine millimeter go bang "). Musically, samples from James Brown and reggae sounds formed the basis of the album.

During this time he was embroiled in one of the most famous rivalries in early hip hop. He attacked MC Shan from Queensbridge with his now legendary battle rap The Bridge is Over , after the latter claimed that Queensbridge and not the Bronx was the birthplace of the hip-hop movement.

After Scott La Rock was shot dead shortly after the first BDP album was released in 1987, KRS-One continued BDP with his brother Kenny Parker and released several albums (see Boogie Down Productions ). KRS-One increasingly positioned itself politically. He was the leading figure behind the HEAL compilation of the " Stop the Violence Movement ". He said goodbye to his pseudonym The Blastmaster , which he had previously used for battle raps, and now increasingly called himself The Teacha.

In 1991 he was a guest musician in the song Radio song on the album Out of time from REM to hear. In 1992, after the release of the last BDP album Sex and Violence , KRS-One decided to continue working as a soloist. His first solo album Return of the Boom Bap was released in 1993. The album was produced by DJ Premier , Showbiz and Kid Capri . The next album, KRS One , featured Channel Live (on the Free Mumia track ), Mad Lion , Busta Rhymes , Das EFX and Fat Joe . For the 1997 release I Got Next , to the surprise of the scene, he remixed the hit Step Into a World with the icon of commercial hip-hop Puff Daddy , which in turn was based on a sample of the classic Rapture by Blondie . Heartbeat with Angie Martínez and Redman was based on another classic, Feel the Heartbeat by the Treacherous Three .

In 2000, KRS-One and DJ Tomekk shot a video with German rappers Torch and MC Rene for their single Return of Hip-Hop , in which hip-hop was revived by hospital staff. The song stayed in the German charts for 9 weeks.

In 2001 he lost his record deal with Jive Records and his next album was released by Koch , which was followed by a gospel rap album, Spiritual Minded , in 2002 : Once again, he surprised the scene and fans, as he had earlier described Christianity as the religion of the slave owners . the African American shouldn't follow suit. He then founded the Temple of Hip Hop . Another album followed later that year, Kristyles , and in 2004 KRS-One: The Mixtape .

On May 22, 2007, the album "HipHop Lives" was released on Koch Records , on which he featured Marley Marl , producer legend of his own accord and also known as the radio presenter and sampler namesake Mr. Magic . The chorus of the title song says I come back Every year I get newer I'm the dust on the moon I'm the trash in the sewer [...] I come back Every year I get brighter If you think Hip Hop is alive hold up your lighter, alluding to the HipHop is Dead wave, which was preceded by Nas' 2006 album.

On July 10, 2007, his wife, Simone Parker, announced that their son Randy Hubbard Parker had committed suicide by shooting in the head on July 6 in Atlanta. He had struggled with depression long before that.

KRS-One has been under contract with the New York label Duck Down Records since August 2007 . At the beginning of 2009 KRS-One gave several lectures with the HipHop Leadership Conference and the Temple of HipHop , which can be seen on YouTube. He gives the opportunity to book him for HipHop seminars via MySpace. On May 26, 2009, the Havoc- produced single Robot was released with Buckshot . In 2009 he appeared in the film The Obama Deception by director and conspiracy theorist Alex Jones .
