Boogie Down Productions

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Boogie Down Productions was an American hip-hop - duo from the early days of the scene .

In 1985, homeless Lawrence "Krishna" Parker (aka KRS-One ) and social worker Scott Sterling ( DJ Scott LaRock ), who was already a DJ, founded the Boogie Down Crew duo . 1986 saw the first release of the duo, now renamed Boogie Down Productions , the single Crack Attack . Shortly afterwards the album was released, which established BDP as one of the leading hardcore rap bands and is still considered a classic of hardcore hip-hop: Criminal Minded .

After DJ Scott LaRock was shot trying to settle a dispute shortly after the album was released, the project seemed to be over again. KRS-One, however, decided to continue BDP as a DJ with his brother Kenny Parker. In fact, in the following year, 1988, with By All Means Necessary , they succeeded in producing an album of equal quality, which was also a further development in terms of content: While the lyrics on Criminal Minded were mainly about life in New York, hip-hop jams and crime, BDP changed radically after Scott's death and became, alongside Public Enemy, the most popular of the conscious rap groups that deal with social and political problems.

In 1992, after the appearance of Sex and Violence , KRS-One decided to continue working as a soloist and disbanded the group.
