Redman (rapper)
Redman (born April 17, 1970 in Newark , New Jersey ; real name Reggie Noble ) is an American rapper who became famous as an artist with Def Jam in the 1990s . He is also known for his collaboration with the Wu Tang clan member Method Man . He was nicknamed "Redman" after a snowball hit him on the cheek and it then turned red.
biography
Reggie Noble grew up in Newark , New Jersey . He studied at Montclair State College and financed his studies as a drug dealer. During this time he also tried to make a name for himself as a rapper. He publishes several mixtapes and competed in Freestyles . He got his stage name as a nickname when he was a child when a girl caught him with a snowball in his face and he blushed as a result.
Redman made his debut on the EPMD album Business as Usual with the songs Hardcore and Brothers on My Jock , after Erick Sermon , part of this influential group, spotted him freestyling in a New York club and joining their hit squad crew of aspiring MCs ( together with K-Solo and others). Then took him Def Jam contract. The first collaboration is the single Blow Your Mind . Redman's Def-Jam debut Whut? Thee album in 1992 made it into the US Top 50 and achieved gold status in the States. Then the well-known hip-hop magazine The Source named him Rap Artist of the Year for 1993.
Redman's solo career continued for the rest of the decade. Each of his albums sold at least half a million times. His musical style solidified and became a combination of a unique flashy wit and hard P-funk- influenced beats. In addition to the albums under his own name, he brought out the album El Nino in 1998 as part of the Def Squad (together with Keith Murray and Erick Sermon ) . With his label colleague Method Man he released the album Blackout! out what heralded the beginning of a long friendship and cooperation. He has also collaborated with many other artists from the hip-hop and other genres. That long list includes Gorillaz , Wyclef Jean , Snoop Dogg , Scarface , The Offspring , Christina Aguilera , D'Angelo , Me'shell Ndegeocello , Eminem , 2Pac , Jodeci , Cypress Hill , KRS One , De La Soul , Das EFX , Limp Bizkit , DMX and IAM .
In 2001 the film So High came out, in which Redman plays the lead role with Method Man . The two play two stoners trying to make ends meet at Harvard University . Method Man and Redman also appear in the Def Jam Vendetta video game series, mostly as a tag team. They also had their own television series Method & Red Show on Fox in 2004/2005 , which was canceled after a few episodes.
Redman belongs to the extended Wu-Tang-Clan environment and can be heard on their album The W as well as on the solo albums Supreme Clientele by Ghostface Killah and on Method Mans Tical . In 2002 Redman can be heard alongside Christina Aguilera on the track Dirrty , which was nominated for a Grammy . Then it becomes quiet about Redman, who is now trying himself as an actor, among others in Scary Movie 3 and Chucky's Baby .
After a long delay, the album Red Gone Wild followed on March 27, 2007, featuring features by Method Man , Snoop Dogg , and Biz Markie . Producers are Timbaland , Scott Storch , Rockwilder , Pete Rock and Erick Sermon . On May 15, 2009 Blackout 2 was a continuation of the collaboration album with Method Man. 2010 followed with Reggie his seventh solo album.
Redman appears in Raquel Reed's music video I'll Show You ; a song he recorded with her.
In 2012, the German rapper Fard recorded a freetrack with Redman called Still Hatin , for which a video was released. A year later followed a song called Like This on the album Bellum et Pax , for which a video was shot.
On November 13, 2015, Redman's last solo album, Mudface, was released via Gilla House Records.
Others
Redman is a character in the beat-em-up games Def Jam: Vendetta and Def Jam: Fight for NY .
