DJ Kool

DJ Kool (real name: John W. Bowman, Jr. , * 1959 in Washington DC , USA ) is an American DJ and rapper .

biography

From the early to mid-1980s, DJ Kool worked as a warm-up DJ for Rare Essence, a go-go rap band, until he signed a record deal with CLR Records himself . In the late 1990s he produced a number of commercially known rap singles .

His most successful work "Let Me Clear My Throat" was released in 1994 as a music cassette, record and CD. This song comes from a sample of "The 900 Number" by The 45 King, "Unwind Yourself" by Marva Whitney and "Hollywood Swinging" by Kool & The Gang . This song is still considered a successful floor filler today.

DJ Kool also worked on the songs Ayo by Mýa and Let's Get Dirty by Redman , among others . In 2005 he worked for Will Smith on two songs for the album "Lost and Found".

You can hear the influence of go-go and funk in his songs .
