Method Man (* 2. March 1971 in Hempstead, New York as Clifford James Smith ) is an American rapper the east coast and member of the Wu-Tang Clan . He is also known as an actor and for duets with the rapper Redman .

biography

Clifford Smith grew up on Long Island and Staten Island as a child of divorce. He started playing the drums at an early age and was interested in comics , especially the Marvel series Ghost Rider , from which he later borrowed many of his pseudonyms as a rapper. He also named his clothing company after the Ghost Rider character Johnny Blaze . Before founding the Wu-Tang Clan, he financed himself as a drug dealer and through several temporary jobs, including in a social station of the Five Percent Nation . Method Man joined the group as the youngest member.

His solo album Tical (1994) sold 1.7 million copies, making it the most successful solo album to date by a member of the Wu-Tang Clan. With the song All I Need , a duet with Mary J. Blige , he was nominated for a Grammy.

The sequel to the 1994 album was released under the title Tical 2000: Judgment Day . This album sold 1.5 million times worldwide. In 2001 he first starred in the film So High , the soundtrack was created by him and Redman . Several more films followed later, including Soul Plane . Method Man also made a short appearance with Redman in Scary Movie 3. The 2004 album Tical 0: The Prequel became a first artistic flop. Despite good sales and a hit single, the album was panned by criticism. After several confrontations with the press, which even reported on his wife's cancer, which had been kept secret until then, 2 years passed before Method Man's next album, 4:21 ... The Day After , was released. Despite not being so mainstream, Method Man, like most other Wu-Tang members, is an important figure in the US hip-hop scene. In 2006 he had a public dispute with radio presenter Wendy Williams after she published his wife's cancer on a radio show and accused him of cheating.

On May 17, 2007, he was stopped at the wheel of his Lincoln Navigator at the toll booth of the Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel . When checking his vehicle, more than 30g of marijuana and two ready-rolled blunts were found. He was charged with possession of marijuana and driving after drug use.

On August 21, 2015 his album The Meth Lab was released on the label "Hanz On Music", whose operator Hanz On contributes to more than half of all tracks on this work. Other guests include Redman, Streetlife, Raekwon and Masta Killa .
