Cappadonna
Cappadonna (born September 18, 1969 ; real life Darryl Hill ) is an American rapper . For a long time Cappadonna belonged to the close circle of the Wu-Tang clan , since the studio album 8 Diagrams he has been a permanent member of the group.
Life
Cappadonna had been friends with the members of the Wu-Tang Clan for a long time and was known locally for his rap arts, but only made his first recordings during a chance visit to the group's studio in Staten Island . He came to visit there in 1995 while recording Raekwon's Only Built 4 Cuban Linx . Raekwon was just recording the track Ice Cream , Cappadonna joked that he could rap a verse too, producer RZA took it seriously; the result was good enough that he still has a recording on the additional track Ice Water and then raps on both Ironman by Ghostface Killah and on the next group release Wu-Tang Forever (1997).
His own solo debut, The Pillage , came out in 1998 and was one of the first Wu-Tang releases in the group's post- forever phase. The reviews have been positive but not overwhelming. Until the next group album The W he seemed to be an official member of the group become: while on Wu-Tang Forever nor as featuring Cappadonna was listed missing at The W any such instructions. On the album cover and promotional materials he is treated like other group members.
His next album The Yin & The Yang (2001) went under in the market, the single Super Model with Ghostface Killah was only moderately successful.
On the fourth Wu Tang album Iron Flag (2001), it is completely absent. He probably still worked on the recordings, but in the intensive cuts and rearrangements that RZA regularly does after the actual recordings, he seems to have completely removed Cappadonna from the record. One of his legs can still be seen on the cover of the album, while he was otherwise subsequently removed from the photo. In other known photos from the same photo session, he is still present as a whole person, but these do not appear directly in connection with the album. In the time before the recordings, the tensions between Cappadonna and the group seem to have increased: he regularly complained that outsiders showed him less respect than the original members. In addition, shortly before the recordings, the group discovered, thanks to an article in the Village Voice , that Cappadonna's personal manager was a paid informant for the New York police.
After he was obviously kicked out of the group, he moved to Baltimore and worked as a taxi driver there. While the press generally believes he had to do this to make a living, according to Cappadonna, it was a decision “to give up what material possessions he had amassed and walked the streets of Baltimore for 8 months, before returning to the rap game ”. His next album The Struggle was back with some Wu-Tang members and was released on the label of group friend Remedy. A new dispute began when he publicly accused RZA of having cheated him out of royalties. For the reunification tour in 2004, however, he was back on stage.
On July 22nd, 2008 he released his 2007 internet album The Cappatilize Project on his own label Cappadonna Records in collaboration with Park Hill Productions , which was released in 2008 as a physical sound carrier.
