Hook Off is the eighth studio album by the US American Wu Tang clan - rapper Cappadonna . It was released on June 17, 2014 via God Love Family Entertainment, the album was digitally distributed by Protect-Ya-Neck Records. A special feature of this album is that it completely dispenses with choruses.

background

According to Cappadonna, the concept of Hook Off consists of the focus on the lyric, so he completely omitted the chorus. He explained this in the following words:

Most hip-hop songs are only remembered because of the catchy chorus, but without the chorus, the listener has no choice but to get involved with the lyrics of the rapper with whom this album is equipped. "

rap-essence

Alex Dionisio from examiner.com described Hook Off as a "typical East Coast album " with refreshing, hard and rough lyrics. The content is about problems and violence in the “ everyday ghetto and about “making money” . Thematically this is nothing new, but Hook Off is "unique" because of the renunciation of the chorus . He praised Cappadonna and his guests and described their lyrics as " wise " and " poetic " .

Hook Off also received three out of five possible points for rap-essence because, as Mike Scheumeister found, the album contained many good songs, but also some “fillers” . The beats are either good or bad (quote in the original: "hit or miss" ). While Scheumeister praised the rappers' poetry, he criticized the large number of guests who sometimes made the album sound like a mixtape . In conclusion he wrote that Hook Off was good, but on the verge of "Can you forget" , and that the album was a little bit better than its predecessor Eyrth, Wynd, and Fyre .
