My wife, the Spartans and I (Original title: Meet the Spartans ) is a comedy film from 2008, the plot of which is mainly a parody of the film 300 . Both the original English title and the German version is an allusion to the film title of the series, with Meet the Parents began. Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer directed and wrote the script.

action

The film begins with an inspection of a Shrek-style baby who, after falling through the harsh Spartan criteria, is kicked off a hill. The baby Leonidas, on the other hand, with his muscular body and his beard is already considered a real Spartan, who then has to go through the tough training of a Spartan. In addition to fighting with his grandmother and torturing him in the James Bond style, he has to face a giant penguin in the wilderness of an ice landscape .

While he is returning from his royal consecration, Leonidas meets Margo, whom he immediately falls for and for whose hand he asks. In response, she reveals the combination of numbers on her chastity belt . The plot then quickly turns back to the beginning of the story and shows how Leonidas trains his son until the captain Leonidas reports of the arrival of a Persian messenger who brings his king Xerxes I's request . Leonidas greets the messenger in a very Spartan way: high five for the women and kisses with tongue for the men. The Persian demands the submission of Sparta, but did not expect Leonida's anger. He kicks the messenger into the "death pit" as well as his bodyguards and other characters who annoy him, from Britney Spears to the American Idol jurors.

However, Leonidas now faces the overwhelming power of the Persians. To find a solution, Leonidas visits the oracle to suggest an erotic-sounding strategy, while trying to convince the oracle with personal care products. Now the oracle reveals Leonidas' fate: If he goes to war, he will die.

Leonidas then meets the soldiers who have been recruited for the fight and is shocked to find that instead of 300 only 13 men have answered the call of war. Among these, next to the captain and his son Sonio, there is another Spartan named Dilio, who is characterized by his lack of fitness. The 13 hold hands and “walk” behind Leonidas to Thermopylae , where they meet Paris Hilton (with a hump and a deformed arm). Paris' request to join the army, however, is denied. Leonidas and his troop are then confronted with Xerxes' messengers ( Method Man ) and his fighters, who they can beat in a dance competition and push down a cliff. Impressed, Xerxes tries to get closer to Leonidas by trying to bribe him (in the style of the Deal or No Deal game show ). However, Leonidas refuses the offer and announces that he will instead bring down the God-King . The Spartans must now face Xerxes' army in a "abuse" battle that ends in victory, even if Dilio loses his eyesight. Then Leonidas sends Dilio back to Sparta.

In the meantime, Paris Hilton Xerxes reveals the way to the secret goat path that leads behind Leonidas' 13. She was promised that her hump would be removed as a reward.

By Xerxes a blue screen used his army to increase, he manages to overpower the twelve remaining Spartans, with Sonio and his father are killed. However, Xerxes' army is completely destroyed. But Xerxes finds an Allspark and changes a convertible standing around into a combat suit. But the “fat guy from Borattron” ends by “falling”, as Leonidas predicted, although he crushes the remaining Spartans in the process. Blind Dilio is the only one to survive the final battle and returns to Sparta to tell of Leonidas' last moment. A year later, Dilio leads an army of 100 real Spartans and hundreds of thousands of animated fighters to war to defeat the Persians. However, he follows the wrong path and leads the Spartans to Malibu, where they meet Lindsay Lohan , who is just leaving the rehab clinic.

On Rotten Tomatoes the film received a rating of 2% (average rating 1.9 out of 10) with 48 counted reviews. The overall consensus is: "A tired, pointless, obnoxious waste of time."

“Persiflage” along the plot of the filmic historical slaughter “300” by Zack Snyder (2007), with which the fooling team of the “Scary”, “Date” and “Fantastic” films gives a further taste of the directorial zero point . The film, which can hardly be beaten in terms of tastelessness and lack of humor, monotonously unwinds the same mechanisms and serves the simplest mass tastes. "

“Whether good or not so good punchlines - the biggest shortcoming of this butcher film parody is its inaccuracy and superficiality. You can tell that the film was wound down quickly, gags and characters seem inconsistent and soulless. Unfortunately Friedberg and his co-director Aaron Seltzer are producing exactly what they wanted to target: pompous, hollow crap. "

- Ernst Kramer - floodlight

“The idiotic plot and the crypto-fascist pathos of the blockbuster '300' by Zack Snyder provide the foil on which the already laughable is exposed to ridicule. [...] 'My wife the Spartans and I' is a film that you have to drink in a funny way. Jokeless, bully tart gay humor smells through the film as well as humorless blonde jokes; the allusion to films from the last few years is annoying, and only the dumb joy in recognizing the quote drives the corners of the mouth up from time to time. "

The film was nominated in five categories for the 2009 Golden Raspberry negative award.
