Ugly Betty (also: Alles Betty! ) Is an American television series broadcast by ABC . Just like the German telenovela Verliebt in Berlin , it is an adaptation of the Colombian telenovela Yo soy Betty, la fea ( German : I am Betty, the ugly ). With everything Betty! the US broadcaster ABC achieved the most successful series restart of the 2006 season. America Ferrera embodies the central leading role . Betty Suarez, 22, lives in Queens , New York with her Mexican father and older sister and their underage son Justin . On the outside, she is rather unattractive and has no sense of fashion and styling. Working at “Mode” is made more difficult for Betty and Daniel by the staff. Her greatest threat comes from creative director Wilhelmina Slater, a vengeful intriguer who makes numerous plans to steal Daniel's job and take control of his company. Additionally, Wilhelmina's loyal assistant Marc St. James and “fashion” receptionist Amanda Sommers constantly humiliate and taunt Betty for her lackluster looks, awkward nature, and lack of taste in fashion. However, not everyone is against Betty in “Mode”; she makes loyal friends, for example the tailor Christina McKinney and the accountant Henry Grubstick. Wilhelmina finally gets the post of editor-in-chief and takes over Betty as assistant. With the hiring of Kimmie, who annoyed Betty in high school, a new competitor appears who fights with unfair means. In order to advance her professional development, she and Marc register for a training course for young editors, the YETI program. There she meets the sports reporter Matt Hartley and after a few dates they get together. On November 13, 2010, Sat.1 stopped the series again in the middle of the first season.

In January 2007, the series won two Golden Globe Awards - Best TV Series Musical / Comedy and America Ferrera for Best Actress , who was also the first Latina to be nominated in this category.
