Christine Ebersole (born February 21, 1953 in Chicago , Illinois ) is an American actress and singer . She has won the Tony Award twice.

Life

Ebersole attended MacMurray College in Jacksonville , Illinois. After appearing in Ryan's Hope in 1977 and 1980, she got her first major role as part of the cast of Saturday Night Live , after which she starred in several seasons of the series Love, Lies, Passion and Valerie and the coveted Austrian soprano Caterina Cavalieri in Miloš Forman's award-winning Film drama Amadeus .

Ebersole has also been part of the cast of several not very successful television series, including Rachel Gunn, RN (1992), in which she played the title role. In 1994 she played the exalted billionaire wife Regina and mother of Richie Rich at Ed Herrmann's side in the comic film adaptation of the same name . She has also had guest roles in many series such as Will & Grace , Just Shoot Me - Editorial , Murphy Brown and Ally McBeal .

However, she was most successful on Broadway . There she starred in Gore Vidal's The Best Man (2000), the role of Millicent Jordan in Dinner at Eight (2002) (nomination for a Tony Award) and M'Lynn in Magnolias of Steel (2005).

She won the Tony Award for Best Leading Actress in a Musical for her portrayal of Dorothy Brock in the revival of the musical 42nd Street in 2001, and in 2007 as Edie Beale in Gray Gardens .

Ebersole was married to actor Peter Bergman from 1977 to 1982. Since 1988, Bill Moloney has been her husband, with whom she adopted three children.
