Tootsie is an American travesty - comedy with Dustin Hoffman in 1982. The title is American , slightly sexist slang and means something like "sweetie," "darling" or " Darling ".

The actor Michael Dorsey gets no engagement because of his stubbornness. Then he got the idea to dress up as a woman. He is applying under the name Dorothy Michaels for the lead role of a TV - soap opera , gets the job and enjoys great success. At the same time, he falls in love with his colleague Julie, who plays in the series. But Julie and her father think he's a woman. So there are some cheerful complications. Dorsey has increasing problems managing the conflict between his role and his feelings for Julie. Julie's father, in turn, develops feelings for "Dorothy". In an unscheduled live broadcast of the hospital series, he comes out as a man in front of an audience of millions, which means that he loses his role, but gains the chance of a relationship with Julie.
