Dabney Wharton Coleman (born January 3, 1932 in Austin , Texas ) is an American actor .

Life

Dabney Coleman studied from 1949 at the Virginia Military Institute and then law at the University of Texas at Austin . He made his debut as an actor in the mid- 1960s and initially appeared in individual episodes of the television series Auf der Flucht , Bonanza , Invasion von der Wega and Columbo in the following years .

In the comedy Why actually ... don't we kill the boss? Coleman starred in 1980 alongside Jane Fonda , Lily Tomlin and Dolly Parton in the lead male role. Then his cinema career picked up speed, a year later he was again in front of the camera with Fonda in the drama On the Golden Lake . He played the role of television director in the comedy Tootsie (1982) alongside Dustin Hoffman and in the thriller WarGames (1983) opposite Matthew Broderick Dr. McKittrick . In the comedy Die Zeit der Bunte Vögel (1990) he played one of the leading roles alongside Uma Thurman and was seen in em @ il for you (1998) as Nelson Fox , the father of Tom Hanks' main character Joe Fox . In 2016 he had a supporting role in Warren Beatty's film Rules don't matter .

Coleman won an Emmy Award and was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for the lead role in the television movie Damned to Silence (1987), in which he starred alongside Peter Coyote and Liam Neeson . From 2001 to 2004 he starred in the television series The Guardian as Burton Fallin and owner of Fallin Associates . He played the role of Commodore Louis Kaestner in 17 episodes of the HBO television series Boardwalk Empire in 2010 and 2011 .

In November 2014, he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for his television work . 2017 he was at the Satellite Awards of the Mary Pickford Award conferred

Coleman was married to Ann Courtney Harrell from 1957 to 1959, and to actress Jean Hale from 1961 to 1983 . He has three children from his second marriage.
