The Invaders (AKA The Invaders ) is an American science fiction - television series of the 1960s.
action
One night, the architect David Vincent, lost his way, observed a UFO landing . He alerts the police, but they find no trace of what happened at the scene. Vincent, who is now investigating the whole country, becomes a dogged opponent of the aliens . He realizes that the aliens have assumed human form, are planning to invade Earth and have already held key positions in politics, administration and the military.
Outwardly, the aliens can only be distinguished from humans by the slight curvature of their little finger and the fact that they burn up when they die. When injured, they don't bleed and they don't have a pulse . In the second season of the series, Vincent meets a group called The Believers (The Helpers). They founded an organization that fights the aliens from underground. For example, they set up secret bases from which they can disrupt the landing of flying saucers with special waves. They also manage to win over influential people for their struggle.
In contrast to many other science fiction series, Invasion von der Wega only uses very little trick technology and a few special effects. The fact that the extraterrestrials appear as humans and can thus appear anywhere and suddenly creates an uncanny threat that seems to come from everywhere and thus creates a dramatic tension that was seldom achieved again in such a series project. The series clearly takes up motifs from the so-called “invasion films” from the 1950s (such as Invasion of the Body Snatchers - German title “ Die Demonischen ” by Don Siegel ), which alluded to the fear of the allegedly creeping communism in the USA .
American original states "They are coming from another Galaxy" ( "they come from another galaxy ") - which is highly unlikely given the small size of the spaceships. In the German translation it became "a planet of Vega ".
Broadcast and German version
The first episode aired in the United States on January 10, 1967. The series was broadcast on German television ( ZDF ) between April 14, 1970 and January 5, 1971 on Tuesdays at 9:05 p.m. The average audience rating was 46%. Of the total of 43 episodes, only 20 were dubbed in German. Except for episode no. 18 The Persecuted on September 18, 1973, the series was never repeated on German television.
The German version was produced by ATF Television Film . The books were written by Fritz A. Koeniger and directed by Hansjörg Amon. David Vincent was voiced by Michael Chevalier and Curt Ackermann voiced Edgar Scoville.
To bring the series to a close for the German audience, the last episode broadcast in Germany, Die Rebellen, added the statement that the invasion had now stopped and that David Vincent had achieved his goal. ZDF already proceeded in a similar way in the series UFO .
The book for the series
In 1970 Jack Pearl published the book for the series by Schneider Verlag in Munich : Invasion von der Wega - death rays from space , translated by Liselotte Eder.
criticism
On the occasion of the broadcast of the series UFO and Time Tunnel in the summer of 1971, Der Spiegel stated :
"Both series, of course, are based on that friend-foe cliché that was condemned by critics in the series 'Invasion of Vega' because it supposedly 'mobilizes the fascist potential of our society'"
Others
In 1995 a television miniseries called The Invaders - Invasion from Space with Scott Bakula was produced with two parts of 90 minutes each, which was to continue the story of the Invaders . The two episodes were broadcast on January 26 and 27, 1997 on ProSieben .
The original series star, Roy Thinnes , had a recurring role in the X-Files mystery series 30 years after the Vega invasion .

The order of the episodes corresponds to the US American premiere.
