Suzanne Pleshette
Suzanne Pleshette (born January 31, 1937 in New York City , † January 19, 2008 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American actress .
Life
Suzanne Pleshette was born in 1937 as the only child of dancer Gloria Kaplan and theater manager Eugene Pleshette in Brooklyn Heights , New York . At the age of twelve she attended the New York High School of the Performing Arts, then Syracuse University , Finch College and Sanford Meisner's drama school.
One of her first film roles Pleshette played in 1958 in the Jerry Lewis film Geisha Boy ( The Geisha Boy , also Jerry out of control ). Her actual career began in the late 1950s with many initially small roles in American television productions. Among other things, she played in three episodes of the Dr. Kildare . Her breakthrough came in 1963 in the role of the teacher Annie Hayworth in Alfred Hitchcock's film The Birds . Countless guest appearances in television series followed (for example in Bonanza , Smoking Colts , Your Appearance, Al Mundy , The Boss , Columbo or Kojak - Use in Manhattan ) and a permanent engagement as Emily Hartley on the Bob Newhart Show . Since the mid-1960s, she has also appeared in a number of Disney movies. In Aaron Spelling's Sisters (1989, Nightingales ) series , she tried to keep things under control as school principal Christine Broderick, but was still in her ex Dr. Paul Petrillo ( Gil Gerard ) in love.
Pleshette also performed successfully on Broadway theater . In the last years of her life she appeared in the sitcoms Will & Grace (as Karen's mother) and in Meine Wild Töchter (as Cate's mother).
In 1964 she married the actor Troy Donahue , but the marriage lasted only eight months. In 1968 he married the entrepreneur Thomas J. Gallagher . The marriage lasted until Gallagher's death in 2000. In 2001, Pleshette married the actor Tom Poston († 2007).
In August 2006, her agent Joel Dean announced that Suzanne Pleshette had been diagnosed with lung cancer and was undergoing treatment. In January 2008, a few days before her 71st birthday, she died of the disease. On January 31, 2008, Suzanne Pleshette was posthumously honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame - Tina Sinatra accepted the award on her behalf .
Awards
- In 1963, Suzanne Pleshette received the "Golden Laurel" of the Laurel Awards for Top New Female Personality . She was twice nominated for a Golden Globe and received four Emmy nominations and one at the Annie Awards for speaking role in The Lion King 2 - Simba's Pride (1998).
