Adventure in Rome is a 1962 American drama film directed by Delmer Daves. The script of the film is based on the novel Lovers Must Learn by Irving Fineman.
action
Librarian Prudence Bell receives reprimand from her school for allowing a student to read an indexed book about love. She quits her job and travels to Italy by ship to learn something about love herself. On the ship, she meets the elegant Italian Roberto Orlandi, who is happy to agree to become her teacher in matters of love. However, Prudence defends himself against the advances of gallant Robertos.
Prudence finds a job in a bookshop in Rome. She lives in a boarding house where the American architecture student Don Porter stayed. Don's wealthy and spoiled friend Lyda returns to the States. Now Don begins to meet with Prudence. They spend their summer vacation together and drive across Italy. Prudence begins to fall in love with the student.
When they are back in Rome, Don is expected by Lyda. Prudence feels too inexperienced to fight for Don. She puts on her best dress and visits Roberto, who in turn fends off Prudence's advances. He doesn't want her to imitate elegant Lyda. Prudence decides to return to the USA. When the ship docks in New York, she sees Don waiting for her on the quay.
