Hampton Fancher III (born July 18, 1938 in Los Angeles , California ) is an American actor , screenwriter and film director . He became known through his work on the script for the film Blade Runner .

Life

Hampton Fancher's artistic ambitions were initially reflected in the fact that he fled to Spain at the age of 15 to become a flamenco dancer . Back in the US, his first job in the film business was playing a zombie in The Brain Eaters . This was followed by other supporting roles in individual episodes of television series such as Adventures in the Wild West , 77 Sunset Strip , Smoking Colts , Bonanza and On the Run, as well as in some less important films. He has his first and to date only leading role in a German television production under the direction of Michael Pflegehar Romeo and Juliet 70 played alongside Tina Sinatra . As a performer he was active until 1978.

Fancher has become much better known as a screenwriter. After convincing Philip K. Dick , whose novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? for filming, and the producer Michael Deeley had been won over for the project, Fancher wrote the first script versions for Blade Runner . As the preproduction went on, Ridley Scott , who had been hired as a director, was dissatisfied with Fancher's work, so David Webb Peoples was hired to work on the final script. However, Fancher has not been ousted from this film project: he was later involved in parts of the filming version, and he is also officially co-screenwriter of the film. He was also involved as an executive producer .

Together with Michael Green he also wrote the scripts for the sequel Blade Runner 2049 and the associated short films 2036: Nexus Dawn and 2048: Nowhere to Run .

Fancher has also written other scripts for films. These include Big Bad Man / Murder in the Caribbean ( The Mighty Quinn , 1989) and finally for the multi-award winning production The Minus Man (1999), in which he was also involved as a director.

Hampton Fancher was married to Sue Lyon , who played Lolita in the Stanley Kubrick film of the same name , from December 22, 1963 until they divorced in 1965 .
