life and work

Peoples studied English at the University of California . He began his career as a film editor . Director Ridley Scott hired him to co-write the script for Blade Runner in the early 1980s because of Scott's creative differences with the original screenwriter Hampton Fancher . Peoples' script revision met with approval from both Fancher and Scott, and even from the author of the novel, Philip K. Dick . This is noteworthy because Peoples had not read Dick's original and his changes caused the film to deviate significantly from the original.

Peoples was involved in the script for Der Tag des Falken (1985) and wrote Die Jugger - Kampf der Beste (1989), both filmed with Rutger Hauer , who also starred in Blade Runner . In the fight of the best Peoples also directed. The film also served as a template for today's sport called Jugger .

1992 was his most successful year, in which three of his films were in theaters: the Director's Cut of Blade Runner , the comedy A normal hero (with Dustin Hoffman ) and the western Merciless . The latter was Peoples' most successful film to date, he himself received an Oscar nomination , the film was nominated nine times and won four Oscars. Peoples wrote the script back in 1976.

He and his wife, Janet Peoples, wrote the screenplay for 12 Monkeys in 1995 , and in 1998 he wrote Soldier , who is set in the same fictional universe as Blade Runner , which was rewritten by Paul WS Anderson and filmed as the Star Force Soldier .
