Michael Green was born to a Jewish family and grew up in Mamaroneck , New York. At the insistence of his Israeli- born mother, he attended a Jewish school where pop culture was taboo. His parents weren't quite so strict. So he discovered the superheroes and their speech bubbles, stand-up comedy and television series for himself. He later wrote the dating column for his college newspaper.

Green first worked as a screenwriter in 1998 for The Drought of the television series Sex and the City , directed by Matthew Harrison. After working for the television series Smallville and Everwood , Green began writing his own series in 2007. A total of 13 episodes of Kings were shown on NBC . In the same year, Green and other screenwriters were nominated for an Emmy for his work on the television series Heroes .

With Green Lantern , which hit theaters in 2011, Green began his career as a screenwriter for films. In 2012, work for the television film Gotham followed . During this time, Green was hired by Steven Spielberg to take over the script for his planned film Robocalypse , on which Drew Goddard had initially written. However, this film project ultimately fell through. He wrote the script together with Scott Frank for the film Logan - The Wolverine , which premiered at the Berlinale in 2017 . In the same year, the science fiction film Alien: Covenant, produced by Ridley Scott , and the film Blade Runner 2049 by Denis Villeneuve, also co-produced by the latter , were released, with Green writing the story for the former together with Jack Paglen and for the latter together with Hampton Fancher wrote the screenplay for the sequel to Blade Runner from 1982. Also in 2017 was Murder on the Orient Express , a cinematic adaptation of the novel by Agatha Christie , a film for which Green wrote the screenplay. Green also wrote the script for the second season of the Neil Gaiman- based television series American Gods , which he also produces. This is to be broadcast for the first time in 2018.

In late June 2018, Green became a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences .
