Oscar / Best Adapted Screenplay

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A script based on a literary model (Adapted Screenplay) is a form of script in which the script is based on a previously published publication (such as a novel or a theater play as the basis of so-called literary adaptations or an already filmed script). At first irregularly, the US Film Academy has been awarding its Oscar in this category since 1929 . This is in contrast to the Original Script category , which is written without a template.

Most frequently honored screenwriter Robert Bolt , Francis Ford Coppola , Ruth Prawer Jhabvala , Joseph L. Mankiewicz , Mario Puzo , Alvin Sargent , George Seaton , Michael Wilson and Alexander Payne (two wins each)
Most frequently nominated screenwriter Billy Wilder (seven nominations)
Most nominated screenwriter without a win Frances Goodrich , Albert Hackett and Stanley Kubrick (four nominations each)

In the table below, the films are listed according to the year in which they were awarded.
