The Love of Betty Patterson is an American drama from 1928. The screenplay is based on the play of the same name by Rida Johnson Young .
action
Jérôme Bonaparte travels to Baltimore and works there as a teacher. He meets the merchant's daughter Elizabeth Patterson and falls in love with her. Only after the wedding does he reveal himself to her as the brother of the French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte .
When Jérôme travels to France, his brother refuses entry to his wife. He has the marriage annulled and sends her back to Baltimore. A planned wedding with Princess Fredericka von Württemberg fails because Jérôme flees. He returns to Elizabeth. She has now given birth to their son.
criticism
Mordaunt Hall of the New York Times wrote that the film, with all its flourishes and hot-blooded hugs, is an engaging romance.

At the first Academy Awards in 1929 , Anthony Coldeway was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Screenplay .

The film is a mixture of silent and sound films. Dialogues were recorded directly, music and sound effects inserted using Vitaphone (a special sound film process).
