Betty Blythe (actually Elizabeth Blythe Slaughter ; born September 1, 1893 in Los Angeles , California - † April 7, 1972 in Woodland Hills , California) was an American actress.

Life

Blythe began her career in the theater with plays such as So Long Letty and The Peacock Princess . After guest appearances in Europe and the USA, she entered the film business in 1918 at Vitagraph in Brooklyn ; she later moved to Fox Film to replace Theda Bara . With her more revealing than veiling costumes, she became a star there. The as lost applicable exotic film The Queen of Sheba from 1921 is considered the height of her film work. She played with Lon Chaney in Nomads of the North in 1920 . During the time of the sound film, she only played supporting roles.

Blythe was married to actor and director Paul Scardon .

She was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame .
