James Dearden

James Dearden (born September 14, 1949 in London ) is a British screenwriter and film director .

Life

Dearden is the son of the director Basil Dearden (1911-1971) and the actress Melissa Stribling (1926-1992). Dearden made his debut as a screenwriter, director and producer of the short film The gizmo from 1977. For this he was awarded at the International Film Festival in Berlin in 1978 the Jury Prize . After further projects, he made his first feature-length film, The Cold Room, in 1984. His screenplay for A Fatal Affair , based on his own short film Diversion (1980), earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay in 1988 . He was also nominated for the Saturn Award for Best Screenplay . He then turned back to his own projects, which he staged on the basis of his own scripts. Dearden took part in the competition at the 1988 Cannes Film Festival with The Forgotten Island .

In 2013/2014 a stage version of A Fateful Affair was created , in which Dearden was instrumental. The version has a different ending than the film.
