John Farrow

John Villiers Farrow (born February 10, 1904 in Sydney , Australia , † January 28, 1963 in Beverly Hills , United States ) was an Australian screenwriter and director .

Farrow began writing while serving in the British Navy, first short stories and then plays. He came to Hollywood in the 1920s as a technical consultant for marine films and wrote his first screenplays. In 1936 he married the famous actress who played Jane from the Tarzan films: Maureen O'Sullivan . In 1937 he also began working as a director. He made his debut as a screenwriter in 1927. In 1953, Farrow shot John Wayne's only 3D film , One calls me Hondo ( Hondo ).

Farrow and O'Sullivan were married until his death after a heart attack in 1963 and had seven children. The most famous daughters are Mia Farrow and Prudence Farrow . Mia Farrow became famous through her marriage to Frank Sinatra and her first major film Rosemary's Baby by Roman Polański . Prudence Farrow became famous for the Beatles song Dear Prudence . However, the father could no longer witness the celebrity of the daughters.

John Farrow received the Oscar for best adapted screenplay for Around the World in 80 Days in 1957.

Farrow was also active as a film producer. From 1946 to 1957 he produced seven of his own films, including Spiel mit dem Tode from 1948.

He was buried in the Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City , California .

In his honor there is a star on the Walk of Fame .
