- 1258 : The Mongols under Hulagu conquered Baghdad , the capital of the Caliphate of the Abbasids .
- 1306 : At a meeting of the Scottish heir to the throne Robert Bruce and John III. Comyn, Lord of Badenoch in Dumfries Church , Bruce stabs his adversary. The seriously injured man is murdered shortly afterwards by an accompanying companion.
