Richard Paul "Dick" Anderson (born February 10, 1946 in Midland , Michigan ) is a retired American American football player. He played as safety in the National Football League (NFL) with the Miami Dolphins .

Player career

College career

Dick Anderson visited in Boulder , Colorado , the High School . From 1965 to 1967 he studied at the University of Colorado , where he played college football for the Colorado Buffaloes in the position of a safety device. During his three seasons he broke two university records. He got 14 interceptions and 123 tackles . In 1967 he was elected All American . That year he was able to win the Bluebonnet Bowl with his team against the University of Miami with 31:21. In 1989 he was elected to the University of Colorado All Century Team along with his brother Bobby Anderson .

Professional career

Richard Anderson was selected as the 73rd player in the 1968 third round of the NFL Draft by the Miami Dolphins. As early as his rookie year, his coach George Wilson placed him as a starter in the safety position. In his first year he got eight interceptions with which he achieved a space gain of 230 yards . This value was the annual high in the American Football League (AFL). In 1970 Don Shula took over the coaching position with the Dolphins. Dick Anderson played three Pro Bowl times, was elected All Pro three times , and is a member of the College Football Hall of Fame , Colorado Sports Hall of Fame , Florida Sports Hall of Fame, and the 1970s NFL All-Decade Team . The Miami Dolphins honor him in the Miami Dolphins Honor Roll .
