Louis Donnel Wright (* 31 January 1953 in Gilmer , Texas ) is a former American American football poker players. He played as a cornerback in the National Football League (NFL) with the Denver Broncos .

Player career

College career

Louis Wright was born in Texas, but grew up in Bakersfield , California , where he also attended high school. After graduating from school, he first joined Arizona State University before moving to San José State University in 1973 , where he played cornerback American football for the San José State Spartans . In 1974 he played in the East – West Shrine Game , a selection game of the best college players and under Head Coach Don McCafferty in the Senior Bowl . Wright was also active as a track and field athlete in college . In both sports he was recognized by his college for his athletic achievements.

Professional career

Louis Wright was drafted 17th in the first round by the Denver Broncos in 1975 . Wright was used by his head coach John Ralston in the defense of the Broncos as a starter on the position of a cornerback . In the 1977 season, Louis Wright achieved his breakthrough to become a top player. He caught three interceptions in the regular season and was able to use them to gain 128 yards and a touchdown . So he contributed not insignificantly to the win of the AFC championship by the team from Denver . The Broncos had won twelve of 14 games in the regular season this season and were able to qualify for the playoffs with this performance . Opponents in the AFC final were the Oakland Raiders who could be beaten 20:17. With this victory Wright and his team could qualify for the Super Bowl . Opponents in Super Bowl XII were the Dallas Cowboys . The Broncos lost the game against the Cowboys by 27:10. 1983 Louis Wright had his statistically best playing year. He was able to intercept six passes from the opposing quarterback . In 1986 Wright was able to win his second AFC title. The Colorado team defeated the Cleveland Browns in the AFC final 23:20, but lost the Super Bowl XXI against the New York Giants 39:20. Louis Wright retired after the 1986 season. He has been teaching and coaching high school football teams since retiring.

Honors

Louis Wright played five times in the Pro Bowl , the final game of the best players of the season. He was voted All-Pro eight times . Louis Wright is a member of the NFL 1970s All-Decade Team , the Spartan Sports Hall of Fame, and the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame. The Denver Broncos honor him at Sports Authority Field at Mile High for the Denver Broncos Ring of Fame , and his college honors him at Spartan Stadium for the Ring of Honor .
