Lynn Curtis Swann , (* 7. March 1952 in Alcoa , Tennessee ) Nickname : Swanny , is a former American American football player . He played as a wide receiver for the Pittsburgh Steelers in the National Football League (NFL).
origin
Lynn Swann's father works as an aircraft mechanic , his mother worked in a dental practice. When he was two years old, he moved the family to San Mateo , California . By the time he graduated from high school, he received dance training. The athletic talented Swann attended Junipero Serra High School, where he did not only American football, but also athletics and basketball . In the football team he was used as a wide receiver, but also as a quarterback . The merits he had earned as a football player earned him a scholarship to the University of Southern California .
college
Swann played for the USC Trojans in college . In 1972, the Trojans won the National College Championship with Swann as team captain (the champion was chosen and not played in a final) after beating Ohio University 42:17 in the Rose Bowl . Swann managed a touchdown in this game . The following year he was declared an MVP in college football. Swann studied and graduated from public relations.
Profile career
Swann was drawn 21st in the first round of the 1974 draft by the Steelers. In 1974 the Steelers were able to sign numerous players who were later inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame . In addition to Swann, wide receiver John Stallworth , linebacker Jack Lambert and center Mike Webster were signed up. Other later members of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, such as running back Franco Harris and quarterback Terry Bradshaw , have already played for the Pittsburgh team . The Steelers were able to establish themselves as the top team in the NFL.
In Swann's first year, the Steelers made it into the Super Bowl under coach Chuck Noll . In Super Bowl IX , the Minnesota Vikings were defeated 16: 6. The following year, the Dallas Cowboys were beaten in Super Bowl X 21:17. Swann managed the decisive touchdown.
Overall, he managed to gain 161 yards with four pass catches , which was a final record at that time. The appointment to the Super Bowl MVP was the consequence. In Super Bowl XIII , the Cowboys could be defeated again with 35:31. Swann was again one of the top performers of the game - he made seven pass catches with a gain of 124 yards. Swann was also able to draw attention to himself in Super Bowl XIV the following year . This time the Los Angeles Rams were beaten by 31:19. Swann scored another touchdown and caught 5 passes for 79 yards.
Swann ended his playing career in 1982.
Honors
Swann played in three Pro Bowls , was elected All Pro three times and has been a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame since 2001 , as well as the NFL 1970s All-Decade Team . He has been a member of the College Football Hall of Fame since 1993 and the Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame since 2002 , the hall of fame for athletes who come from the San Francisco area . In 1981 he received the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award .
After the career
Swann became a successful businessman after his playing career. Until 2006 he also worked as a sports presenter and commented on NFL games on the American television station ABC . He also directed a game show on television and appeared repeatedly as an actor. He also held numerous state offices and in 2006 lost as a Republican the election to governor of Pennsylvania .

Swann is married for the second time and has two sons with his current wife, Charena. His brother-in-law is the former American professional basketball player Sherman Douglas . His first wife Bernadette is now married to Sugar Ray Leonard .
