Aaron Charles Rodgers (* 2. December 1983 in Chico , California ) is an American American football poker players at the position of quarterback . He plays for the Green Bay Packers in the National Football League (NFL), with whom he won the Super Bowl XLV and was elected Super Bowl MVP . He was nicknamed A-Rod by his teammates .

family

His father Ed played as an offensive guard on a semi-pro team for three years . His younger brother Jordan also played quarterback at Pleasant Valley High School and played on the Butte College team from 2007 . He has been in a relationship with the racing driver Danica Patrick since January 2018 . In April 2018 Rodgers shares of the acquired NBA - Franchise of the Milwaukee Bucks .

High school

Rodgers attended Pleasant Valley High School in his hometown of Chico. During his school days he was the starting quarterback for two years, throwing passes for 4,421 passing yards . He set several school records. For one, he threw six touchdowns in a game and scored 440 yards. He also set a season school record with 2,466 yards. In his senior season , he also played as a pitcher for the high school baseball team.

college

Although he had the offer to go to the University of Illinois , Rodgers initially stayed at home and attended Butte College in Oroville , California. In the 2002 season he set several school records (2,248 yards; 468 yards in a game against Fresno City ; 2,156 passing yards; 26 touchdown passes in one season; six touchdown passes in one game).

The Head Coach of the University of California, Berkeley , Jeff Tedford , noticed him and brought Rodgers to Berkeley to join the Golden Bears . In the fifth game of the 2003 season, Rodgers was promoted to starting quarterback and led the team to the Insight Bowl , where the Virginia Tech Hokies could be beaten. In 2004 the Golden Bears reached the Holiday Bowl , but were subject to Texas Tech University .

NFL

Rodgers was selected in the first round, in 24th place, by the Green Bay Packers in the 2005 NFL Draft . He was the second quarterback to be selected ( Alex Smith was the first player to be drafted by the San Francisco 49ers ). In his first three years in the NFL, however, he had to be content with the role of substitute behind Brett Favre and only came to short appearances.

After Brett Favre announced his resignation on March 4, 2008, head coach Mike McCarthy made Aaron Rodgers the new starting quarterback for the Packers. It also fits that the Packers engaged two rookies in the quarterback position with Brian Brohm and Matt Flynn in the 2008 draft and deliberately decided not to hire an experienced NFL quarterback. At this point of view of the club and the coaches, Favre's "resignation from resignation" in August did not change anything. Favre was given to the New York Jets after some squabbling , and Rodgers remained a starter. On September 8, 2008, Rodgers made his debut as a starter in Monday Night Football against the Minnesota Vikings at home in Lambeau Field . He was the first starting quarterback for the Packers since 1992, whose name was not Brett Favre. Rodgers played solidly, delivering 18 of his 22 passes for 178 yards and a touchdown. In addition, he contributed a run touchdown to the 24:19 victory of his team.

His second start at the game in Detroit also ended with a success. Rodgers threw more than 300 yards for the first time in a game, scoring three touchdowns without allowing himself to interception . For this he was voted FedEx Air Player of the Week in the weekly vote . On October 31, 2008, the Packers extended the contract with Rodgers early by six years, with a contract volume of 65 million US dollars . The rest of the season was generally unsatisfactory. Rodgers played at a good level (he achieved a quarterback rating of 93.8), but many games were narrowly lost. In the end, the Packers had six wins and ten defeats, although a positive point ratio of 419: 380 was achieved. In addition, Rodgers was only the second quarterback in the NFL after Kurt Warner in 1999 to gain more than 4,000 yards of space through passes in his first season as a starter.

2009

Aaron Rodgers (2011)

The 2009 season marked the breakthrough for Rodgers. Among other things, he earned a quarterback rating of 103.2 and threw only seven interceptions . He led the team into the play-offs , but in which they were defeated in the wildcard game against the Arizona Cardinals with 45:51. The reward for the successful season was Rodger's first-time appointment to the Pro Bowl .

2010

In the following 2010 season , Rodgers secured another wildcard with the Packers. After a cautious start with three wins from the first six games, the team around Rodgers improved and ended the season with a score of 10: 6, making them the 6th team of the National Football Conference (NFC) to reach the play-offs. Rodgers finished the season with a quarterback rating of 101.2 for 3,922 yards. In the wildcard game, the Packers met the Philadelphia Eagles , which they defeated 21:16. Acted as a clear underdog, the Packers now went into the game against the Atlanta Falcons , who were the NFC's best team of the season. The Packers won the game surprisingly clearly with 48:21. The outstanding man on the field was Aaron Rodgers, who brought 31 of his 36 passes for a total of 366 yards and three touchdowns to the man in this game. He also got a touchdown himself. In the NFC Championship Game , the Packers met the Chicago Bears on January 23, 2011 . The game ended 21:14 in favor of Green Bay, which Rodgers led his team to Super Bowl XLV against the Pittsburgh Steelers . After the Packers had dominated the first half of the game and led at 21:10 at halftime, the Steelers came back more and more into the game in the second half, but could not catch up at any point. Rodgers threw passes for 304 yards and three touchdowns. The Packers won the game by 31:25. Rodgers was subsequently voted the Super Bowl MVP .

Rodgers held two new NFL career records after the 2010 season with a quarterback rating of 98.4 and an interception rate of just 2.0 percent.

2011

With a quarterback rating of 122.5, Rodgers broke the record for the best rating of a season in the 2011 season. The previous record was set by Peyton Manning in 2004 and was 121.1. Rodgers led the Green Bay Packers to a record of 15-1 wins in the regular season and threw passes for 4,643 yards and 45 touchdowns - a new team record - with just six interceptions. He also ran to three touchdowns himself. He didn't play the last game of the regular season because the Packers had already secured a home game advantage for the entire play-offs and spared key players. In the play-offs, the Green Bay Packers received the New York Giants . Aaron Rodgers threw 26 full passes in 46 tries and two touchdowns, but also one interception. The Packers were subject to the Giants 37:20.

On February 4, 2012, Rodgers was voted the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the 2011 season by members of the press . He is the first Green Bay Packers player since Brett Favre 1997 to receive this title. Of 50 votes cast, Rodgers got 48 and was able to clearly prevail against Drew Brees , who got the remaining two votes.

2013

On the 13th matchday of the 2013 season in the 23:14 win against the Minnesota Vikings at home, Rodgers threw only one touchdown, but he broke a 50-year-old NFL record for Johnny Unitas . Rodgers threw at least one touchdown pass for 35 home games in a row. Unitas had set the previous record between 1956 and 1962 at its home Memorial Stadium in Baltimore .

In April 2013, the Packers extended the contract with Rodgers, which ran until 2014, for an additional five years for 110 million US dollars. This made him the highest paid player in the NFL, ahead of Joe Flacco .

In the game against the Chicago Bears in Week 9 of the 2013 season, Rodgers fractured his collarbone . This injury led to a several-week failure that shook the Packers. Only with his return in the last game of the regular season could the Packers secure their place in the play-offs.

2014

In the 2014 season, he played the last four games with an injury in his calf, but just missed the Super Bowl in the extension of the NFC Championship Game against the Seattle Seahawks . For his achievements he was awarded the NFL Most Valuable Player Award for the second time .

2015

With a quarterback rating of 92.7, the 2015 season was statistically his worst season as a starting quarterback . One of the reasons for this was the lack of his favorite playing station, Jordy Nelson , who was unable to play due to injury. During the season, however, the Packers made one of the biggest comebacks in their history with a Hail Mary Pass from Rodgers, which is why the game later became known as the Miracle in Motown . With a 10-6 record, the play-offs were reached, where the Washington Redskins were defeated first . The next game against the Cardinals was only decided in overtime, although it was only 13:20 for Arizona until shortly before the end. 55 and five seconds before the end of the game, Rodgers was able to put two Hail-Mary passes on Janis , through which the Packers could equalize at 20:20. A little later, however, they lost to a touchdown from Larry Fitzgerald .

2016

The 2016 season was very changeable for the Packers. After 10 games you were 4-6, but the last four games were lost. With this record you were only in third place in the division, which is why Rodgers and Head Coach McCarthy were heavily criticized. After the fourth consecutive defeat, Rodgers predicted in an interview that they would win the next six games. In fact, the Packers managed this winning streak under Rodgers, which could still win the division. In the wildcard game they defeated the Giants 38:13, with Rodgers throwing a 42-yard Hail-Mary pass to Cobb at the end of the first half . The Dallas Cowboys could be defeated in the following game with 34:31, with Rodgers only 12 seconds before the end of the game with a 35-yard pass to Cook , Crosby was able to bring into a promising field goal position. The following NFC Championship Game against the Atlanta Falcons was clearly lost with 21:44. With 40 touchdowns thrown, Rodgers threw the most in the regular season in 2016.

2017

In the 2017 season, Rodgers suffered another collarbone fracture on Matchday 6 against the Minnesota Vikings . Although it was initially feared that he could be out by the end of the regular season, he was back on the field as starting quarterback two months later on December 17 in the game against the Carolina Panthers . However, this was lost with 24:31, with Rodgers throwing 3 interceptions. The defeat, coupled with the Atlanta Falcons victory the following day, threw the Packers out of the play-off race and prompted the team to put Rodgers back on the injured list to allow his collarbone to heal completely.

2018

At the beginning of the 2018 season, Aaron Rodgers extended his contract with the Green Bay Packers, which ran until 2020, to 2023. He will receive around $ 134 million for this.
