Samuel George "Sam" Shields III (* 8. December 1987 in Sarasota , Florida ) is a former American American football player at the position of the cornerbacks . He plays for the Los Angeles Rams in the National Football League (NFL). After he was not selected in the 2010 NFL Draft , the Green Bay Packers signed him as a free agent .

He won the Super Bowl XLV with the Green Bay Packers in 2011 and was first nominated for the Pro Bowl in 2014 . Due to several concussions, he missed four games in 2015 ; In 2016 he only played one game due to recurring complaints. In January 2017 he said: "Some days it is a severe headache, some just a weak one. It varies, I never know what I am at. I am so used to it having become normal." On February 8, 2017, after seven seasons playing for the Wisconsin team, he was finally fired by the Packers.

On March 8, Shields signed a new contract with the Los Angeles Rams , for which he played all 16 regular season games in the 2018 season .
