Kevin Greene Darwin (* 31 July 1962 in Schenectady , New York ) is a former American American football poker players, trainers and wrestlers . He played fifteen seasons as linebacker and defensive end in the National Football League (NFL). He scored 160 sacks in his career , the third highest in NFL history and the most by any player who played primarily in the linebacker position.

Player career

In the 1985 NFL Draft , Greene was selected in the fifth round by the Los Angeles Rams . In his first season, the only one in which he did not score a sack , he mostly played in the special teams . In his second season he played in all 16 games, but never from the start, and scored seven sacks. In 1987 he was able to achieve another six and a half sacks. In his fourth season he became a dreaded pass rusher when he set a career high of 16.5 sacks. In 1989 he achieved this value again. In 1991 he was retrained by the then defensive coordinator Jeff Fisher to defensive end , whereupon he only scored three sacks. In the following season he was able to return to previous values ​​with ten sacks. However, he then moved to the Pittsburgh Steelers . In his sophomore season for the Steelers, he was able to score the most sacks in the NFL. In 1995 he moved to Super Bowl XXX with the Steelers , which they lost to the Dallas Cowboys . In 1996 he followed Steelers' defensive coordinator Dom Capers to the Carolina Panthers . There he could again achieve the most sacks of the NFL. After that season he left the Panthers for San Francisco before returning for two more seasons in 1998.

In 2016 he was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame .

Wrestling

In June 1996 he began a career as a wrestler, where he was attributed to the powerhouse fighting style . His fighting techniques were mostly based on power slams and forearm smashs . His last appearance in the ring was in July 1998.

Coaching career

After his former coach Dom Carpers was appointed Defensive Coordinator of the Green Bay Packers in 2009 , Greene signed on as coach of the outside linebacker . After the Packers lost in the 2013 play-offs against the San Francisco 49ers, he submitted his resignation.
