Michael Jerome Irvin (* 5. March 1966 in Fort Lauderdale , Florida ) is a former American American football poker players on the position of wide receiver . He played for the Dallas Cowboys in the National Football League (NFL) and won the Super Bowl three times with them .

college

Irvin first played football at St. Thomas Aquinas High School in his hometown before receiving a scholarship from the University of Miami . Irvin, Nickname : “The Playmaker” broke numerous records as a wide receiver in their football team from 1985 to 1988, for example for the number of most passes of 143 and the most scored yards with 2423. The NFL scouts quickly noticed him.

NFL

In 1988 Irvin was selected by the Dallas Cowboys as the 11th player in the first round of the 1988 NFL Draft . In his rookie year , Irvin initially had few opportunities to prove himself, but he still scored five touchdowns . Due to a knee injury, he was only used in six games the following year. A change among the cowboys helped Irvin break through.

Irvin convinced with his speed and catch security. In addition, the Cowboys had numerous good attacking players who were used by Troy Aikman and made the team difficult to predict.

Irvin and his team won the Super Bowl three times : In Super Bowl XXVII against the Buffalo Bills with 52:17, in Super Bowl XXVIII again against the team from Buffalo with 30:13 and in Super Bowl XXX against the Pittsburgh Steelers with 27:17 .

Irvin scored 65 touchdowns in the regular season and eight in the play-offs during his career . He achieved a space gain of 11,904 yards with 750 pass catches . In 1999 he was hit so hard in a game against the Philadelphia Eagles that he had to retire due to a spinal injury .

Off the field

Irvin kept coming into conflict with the law. In 1996 he was fined for cocaine possession and banned from playing several games by the NFL. He was charged with sexual abuse on a false accusation that same year. There was no conviction.

Honors

Irvin was elected to the Pro Bowl five times . In 1992 he was elected MVP in the Pro Bowl . Irvin is a member of the National Football League's 1990s All-Decade Team and the Pro Football Hall of Fame , and the Texas Sports Hall of Fame . He is a member of the Dallas Cowboys Ring of Honor . Irvin is married and has four children.

After the career

Irvin worked as a presenter on television and commented on football games. In 2007 he was fired from ESPN . In 2005 he appeared as an actor. In the film The Longest Yard by Peter Segal , he starred opposite Adam Sandler and played the role of Deacon Moss .

For the American broadcaster Spike , he adapted the concept of the program American Idol in an American football background. The winner was awarded a seat on the Dallas Cowboys' 80-man training grate for the 2009 season . The program was broadcast in spring 2009. In 2015 he played as himself on Nickelodeon's series Bella and the Bulldogs (06/01).
