Adam Sandler
Adam Richard Sandler (born September 9, 1966 in Brooklyn , New York City , New York ) is an American actor , comedian , producer , composer , voice actor and screenwriter .
life and career
Adam Sandler was on September 9, 1966 at the New York City borough Brooklyn , the son of Jewish born parents. His father, Stanley, was an electrical engineer, and his mother, Judy, was a teaching nurse. When Adam Sandler was five, the family moved to Manchester , New Hampshire , where he attended and graduated from Manchester Central High School . He then attended the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University , which he graduated in 1988. In 1991, Sandler received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from New York University.
From 1987 to 1988 Sandler played the role of Smitty in The Cosby Show (1985-1989) . He was also an actor in the MTV game show Remote Control , in which he appeared as Trivia Delinquent and Stud Boy , among others .
After taking the stage at a club in Boston on the spur of the moment, Sandler began performing regularly in comedy clubs. He was discovered by comedian Dennis Miller while performing in Los Angeles . Miller then recommended him to Saturday Night Live producer Lorne Michaels. In 1990, Sandler was hired as a writer for SNL and appeared as a performer the following year, singing ironic self-written songs on the show, such as The Chanukah Song , which was covered by Neil Diamond on his 2009 album A Cherry Cherry Christmas . Sandler left the show in 1996 to focus on his acting career.
Sandler's first step on the way to becoming a movie star was the movie Billy Madison , in which he played a grown man who had to repeat grades 1 to 12 at school so that he could convince his still reluctant father and take over his hotel empire can. This film was followed by other surprisingly successful comedies such as Happy Gilmore (1996) and A Wedding to Fall in Love (1998). With the film Waterboy - The guy with the water damage (1998) Sandler achieved star status. Although most of his earlier films almost always by critics panned were, as well as the multiple award with the Golden Raspberry Awards confirmed his recent movies, how did Punch-Drunk Love by Paul Thomas Anderson , positive reviews received. With Jack and Jill , however, he relapsed again in terms of reviews. The film received the Golden Raspberry in each of the ten categories, something no other film has achieved since the Golden Raspberry Awards. The audience remained Sandler and his slapstick humor true to what in film revenues of 100 million US dollars reflected and more. Sandler subsequently took on serious roles, such as in the critically acclaimed film Punch-Drunk Love , for which he was nominated for a Golden Globe and won the Chlotrudis Award Audience Award , and Spanglish . Sandler was also considered for the role in the 2004 film Collateral , which Jamie Foxx later took on.
Sandler, in whose family there were several actors, rarely gives interviews and largely protects his private life from the public. On his website, however, Sandler regularly addresses his fans in the form of video messages in which he keeps them informed about his film projects and greets them on certain public holidays. On June 22, 2003, Sandler married the model Jackie Titone , whom he met on the set of the movie Big Daddy . Sandler and Titone worked once more in the comedy Rent a Man by Rob Schneider , where Sandler was the production manager. He also owns his own production company Happy Madison Productions , named after his films Happy Gilmore and Billy Madison - A Chaot To Fall In Love With .
Sandler is friends with comedian Kevin James from the television series King of Queens . James said that he loved working with good friends on the show, so Sandler couldn't be missing either. In 2007 they both appeared together in the comedy Chuck and Larry - Like Fire and Flame . His Reign Over Me project deals with the events of September 11, 2001 and includes Don Cheadle , Saffron Burrows , Liv Tyler and Jada Pinkett , among others . Other actors who regularly appear in Sandler films include Rob Schneider , Steve Buscemi , Chris Rock , John Turturro , Jon Lovitz , Clint Howard , Norm Macdonald , Nick Swardson, and Sandler's friends Allen Covert , Peter Dante, and Jonathan Loughran . Allen Covert in particular plays unique and eccentric characters in Sandler's films.
In February 2011, Sandler received a Film Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6262 Hollywood Blvd.
He has been working with Netflix since 2015 and has so far produced the films The Ridiculous Six , The Do-Over , Die Woche , Sandy Wexler and The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected) . Murder Mystery followed in 2019 .
Sandler's German dubbing voice has been Dietmar Wunder throughout since 2000 . Rick Kavanian voiced him in the Hotel Transylvania films. During his early days as an actor, Sandler was voiced by Benjamin Völz ( Bulletproof and Happy Gilmore ), among others .
