Susan Sarandon Abigail (* 4. October 1946 in New York City as Susan Abigail Tomalin) is an American actress . She won an Oscar in 1996 for her portrayal of Helen Prejean in Dead Man Walking .

Life

Susan Sarandon was born the eldest of nine children of a strictly Catholic family of Italian - Welsh descent. Sarandon's father Philip Tomalin was also active in show business as a singer in a big band. “I was forbidden to sing because I didn't have a beautiful voice.
