action

The playwright of a small New York theater, Tuccio, has written a new play: Illuminata. He fights to be allowed to perform it, but cannot prevail against the directors of the theater. When an incident occurs at another performance, he sees his chance. The piece is performed spontaneously. But leading critic Bevalaqua tears it up. While the theater management feels confirmed, the situation becomes an acid test for the entire theater staff and for the longstanding relationship between Tuccio and Rachel, the star of the theater.

reception

At Rotten Tomatoes, the film received a rating of 38% and a user rating of 68%. The Internet Movie Database has a 6.2 / 10 rating. Janet Maslin praised Turturro in the New York Times for “directing the film well enough that the viewer forgets that he is directing it.” She also praised the “visual diversity”.
