Rufus Sewell
Rufus Frederick Sewell (born October 29, 1967 in Twickenham , Greater London , England ) is a British actor .
Career
Rufus Sewell completed his acting training at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London . He made his theatrical debut in 1992 in Making It Better , for which he was named Best Newcomer at the 1992 London Critics' Circle Theater Awards . His role in Tom Stoppard's play Arcadia earned him a first nomination for an Olivier Award. He also played on Broadway, where he received the Broadway Theater World Award for his role in Translations .
He first appeared on the big screen in 1991 in Don Boyd's Twenty-One . However, he was not able to attract the public and critics until 1994 as Will Ladislaw in the BBC miniseries Middlemarch based on the novel by George Eliot of the same name . In the following years Sewell worked in numerous British television productions and film adaptations of historical material. He earned much praise for his portrayal of Charles II and was nominated for Best Actor at the British Academy Television Awards in 2006 for the role of Petruchio in a modern version of William Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew . Sewell shot with renowned directors such as John Schlesinger , Kenneth Branagh and Michael Apted . In 1998 he starred in Alex Proyas ' science fiction film Dark City . In 2000 he was in Chuck Russell's Die Prophezeiung and in 2001 as Count Adhemar d'Anjou in Brian Helgeland's Passionate Knights . In 2008, Sewell was a cast member of the multi-award winning HBO miniseries John Adams - Freedom for America . In the US television series Eleventh Hour - Last Second , he was most recently as Dr. See Jacob Hood . The two series " The Man in the High Castle " (2015) and especially the TV series "Victoria" (2016), in which he played Lord Melbourne, gave his popularity a big boost.
Even though Rufus Sewell sees his acting homeland in films, he is still regularly on stage. In 2006 he performed rock'n'roll in Tom Stoppard's musical theater in London and won the Critics' Circle Theater Award, the Evening Standard Award and the award for Best Actor at the Laurence Olivier Awards in 2007.
Rufus Sewell was first married to Yasmin Abdallah (1999-2000) and his second marriage to Amy Gardner (2004-2006), with whom he has a son (William Douglas Sewell-2002). He had been in a relationship with Ami Komai since 2010, from which his daughter Lola emerged. At the end of 2019, he and Ami split up. Vivian Benitez has been the woman at his side since the beginning of 2020.

Sewell has so far (2017) no permanent German voice actor, but according to the German dubbing index, he was spoken by Marcus Off most often (six times) , including in the series The Man in the High Castle , which has been running since 2015 , and the second most frequently (three times) by Thomas Nero Wolff . In the cult film Dark City (1998), which was important for his career , he was voiced by Gudo Hoegel .
