Kenneth Branagh
Sir Kenneth Charles Branagh [ ˈbɾænə ] (born December 10, 1960 in Belfast , Northern Ireland ) is a British actor , director and screenwriter . He was best known for his Shakespeare films. He has been President of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art since 2015 , where he graduated from university in 1982.
Life
Kenneth Branagh was born in Belfast in 1960. When he was nine years old, the family moved to Reading , England . At the age of nineteen he began an acting course at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. In 1990 Queen's University Belfast awarded him an honorary doctorate in literature.
Branagh is involved in the theater as well as in the film business. He was best known as a director for the cinematic implementation of several dramas by William Shakespeare , starting with Henry V (1989) through Much Ado About Nothing (1993) to Hamlet (1996). In 2018 he finally portrayed the poet himself in the film All Is True , which he directed . As an actor, he appeared in many other films of his own, but also in third-party productions, for example as Gilderoy Lockhart in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002 ).
In 2009, three remakes of Henning Mankell's Wallander with Branagh in the leading role were shown on German television for the first time. The portrayal of the Swedish detective earned him an Emmy nomination in 2009 . He has since played the role in twelve different films in the crime series.
Kenneth Branagh was nominated five times for an Oscar - once each for best leading actor, supporting actor, screenwriter, director and for best short film, which underlines his versatility as a filmmaker. He holds the record for most Oscar nominations in various categories. In 2001 he won the Emmy for the television play about the Wannsee Conference (English: Conspiracy) .
Branagh was in front of the camera several times with his former wife Emma Thompson . They married in 1989 and divorced in 1996. Branagh then had a relationship with actress Helena Bonham Carter for several years . In 2003 he married Lindsay Brunnock, who works as art director .
In most of the films Branagh is dubbed by Ulrich Matthes or Martin Umbach .
Honors and prizes

- 2012: In June Branagh was knighted ( Knight Bachelor ) by Queen Elizabeth II .
- 2012: On July 27th, Branagh played an important role at the opening ceremony of the 2012 Olympic Games in London . He embodied Isambard Kingdom Brunel , who was partially leading through the program .
- 2014: Honorary President of the German Shakespeare Society
- 2016: On February 29, Branagh was nominated for Best Actor in The Winter's Tale for the Laurence Olivier Award .
- 2017: International Emmy Award for Commissioner Wallander (Best Actor)
