My Week with Marilyn is a feature film by British director Simon Curtis from the year 2011 . The drama deals with the shooting of the comedy film The Prince and the Dancer (1956), in which tensions arose between leading actress Marilyn Monroe (played by Michelle Williams ) and director and leading actor Laurence Olivier ( Kenneth Branagh ). During this time Monroe sought out Anna Freud and, because of her psychological instability, went into short-term therapy. The script is based on the memories of the same name of the filmmaker Colin Clark (1932-2002), who worked as an assistant on Olivier's film and is said to have befriended Monroe. His role was taken on by Eddie Redmayne .
The film, director Curtis' theatrical debut, premiered on October 9, 2011 at the New York Film Festival. The German theatrical release was on April 19, 2012. Leading actress Michelle Williams received the Golden Globe Award for her performance and was nominated for an Oscar together with Kenneth Branagh . The film grossed a total of $ 35 million on an estimated budget of $ 6.4 million.
action
England , mid-1950s: young Colin Clark graduated from college and dreams of a career in film. Against his parents' wishes, he tries to find a job with Laurence Olivier's film production company - the renowned actor and filmmaker once offered Clark a job after his studies at a meeting. Despite an initial refusal, Colin appears repeatedly in the office before he can match Olivier and his wife Vivien Leigh himself and get the position of an assistant in the upcoming filming of Olivier's film The Prince and the Dancer with Marilyn Monroe .
Colin takes a room in a cheap motel where no one believes that he will soon be working with the Monroe. He rises in favor of Olivier when he rents two houses for Monroe, including successfully one for pretense to distract the paparazzi . When Marilyn arrives at the airport, accompanied by her husband Arthur Miller , her business partner Milton Greene and her acting teacher Paula Strasberg, the English press is omnipresent. The Hollywood star nevertheless answers journalists' questions in a witty and quick-witted manner.
While Colin falls in love with the cloakroom assistant Lucy on the first day of shooting The Prince and the Dancer , tensions arise between Olivier and Marilyn. She often appears late on the film set and at script reviews directs her questions exclusively to Paula Strasberg instead of Olivier. Nevertheless, Marilyn is in the favor of the film team, including the actress Sybil Thorndike , who also appears in the film , who defends Marilyn before Olivier. Meanwhile, Colin discovers numerous pills in Marilyn's locker room before being surprised by the actress herself. Marilyn seeks confirmation from Colin as an actress, which she also receives from him. Then she makes him her confidante on the film set.
While Olivier's wife fears competition with Marilyn, Colin goes out with Lucy and the two of them become intimate. Marilyn no longer appears on the set and instead invites Colin to join her. Both spend the day together in the area, escape the photographer and bathe naked in a lake. There is a kiss between the two before they are tracked down by security personnel. Milton Greene tries unsuccessfully to convince Colin that Marilyn is only playing with the men and leaving her heartbroken. When Marilyn asks for Colin again, he finds her dissolved in their house. She has taken too much medication and discovered notes from her husband Arthur Miller allegedly making fun of her. Miller denies this and travels back to the United States while Colin puts Marilyn to bed and lies down next to her. During the night Marilyn wakes up screaming, grabs her stomach and is terrified of losing an unborn child. A doctor is called without Colin finding out more. As a result, Marilyn returns to the film set, but behaves dismissively towards the young man.
After filming is over, Colin confesses to Lucy that Marilyn broke his heart. Lucy is happy about it because it should have been broken. While Colin is leaving his motel, he meets Marilyn again, who thanks him and says goodbye to him with a kiss.
