Sir Simon Russell Beale , OBE (born January 12, 1961 in Penang , Malaysia ) is a British actor .

Life

Simon Russell Beale was born on January 12, 1961 to Sir Peter and Lady Beale (nee Julia Winter). His father was a doctor in the service of the British Army and was appointed KBE , his mother was also a doctor. After graduating from St Paul's School in London , Beale began training as a singer at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama , but soon switched to acting, graduating in 1983.

In London, Beale has appeared as an actor in various theater productions in West End theaters since 1988 . Through many important stage roles - in particular from the works of Shakespeare - he earned the reputation of being one of the best British actors of his generation. In 2005 Beale played the role of King Arthur in the musical Monty Python's Spamalot by Neil Innes and John Du Prez .

In addition to his stage career Beale has worked on television as an actor since the late 1980s, such as in 1995 as Charles Musgrove in Jane Austen's seduction and 2012 as Falstaff in the BBC - Shakespeare -Zweitteiler Henry IV, Part I and Part II on the side of Jeremy Irons . In the cinema, Beale was first seen in a supporting role in the historical drama Orlando by Sally Potter in 1992 . He had other cinema appearances as the abandoned husband of Rachel Weisz in the love drama The Deep Blue Sea (2011) by Terence Davies , as the father of the baker played by James Corden in Into the Woods (2014) and as Lawrenti Beria in Armando Iannucci's political satire The Death of Stalin (2017).

In 2003, Beale was named Commander of the Order of the British Empire for his services to the theater . Sixteen years later, he was appointed Knight Bachelor, which means that he now bears the title "Sir". In 2010 he received an honorary doctorate from the Open University .

Beale lives in London with his partner.
