Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson (born April 15, 1990 in Paris , France ) is a British actress who became known for her role as Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter films . She has a degree in English literature , has modeled for British fashion brands and is involved in human and women's rights , equality and the environment .

Private life

Emma Watson was born in Paris in 1990 and spent the first five years of her life there. She then moved to England with her family. Her parents, Jacqueline and Chris Watson, who are both lawyers, divorced in 1995. Her father then moved to London . Emma and her three years younger brother moved to Oxford with their mother .

Watson graduated from school with very good grades. From 2009 to 2011 she studied literature at Brown University in the USA. In 2011 she continued her studies at Worcester College at the University of Oxford . She received her bachelor's degree in English literature from Brown University in May 2014 .

Career

At the age of seven, Watson won first prize in the Daisy Pratt Poetry Competition , a poetry-speaking competition at her school in Oxford. In 2000 she won the casting for Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone against around 4,000 applicants and got the role of Hermione Granger. The great success of the Harry Potter series in 2001 led to Watson - like her two actors Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint - becoming known worldwide.

In 2002 Watson won the Young Artist Award for Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone . In 2003 she was honored for her performance in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets as best young actress in a leading or supporting role ("Best Performance by a Youth in a Lead or Supporting Role - Female") at the Phoenix Film Critics Awards . From 2003 to 2008, the German youth newspaper Bravo awarded her a Bravo Otto in the category “Kinostar” (2004 still “Female Film Star”): 2003 in silver, 2004 in bronze and 2005, 2006 and 2007 in gold. In July 2007, Watson, Radcliffe and Grint immortalized themselves together with prints of their hands, feet and wands in front of Grauman's Chinese Theater in Los Angeles . Commitment to women's rights

Watson has been the UN special envoy for women and girls' rights since June 2014 . In this capacity, she first toured Uruguay, where she emphasized the importance of women for political decision-making. Together with UN Women, she developed the HeForShe campaign , which aims to encourage men and boys to get involved in women's and girls' rights. In January 2015, Watson spoke at the World Economic Forum on inequalities between men and women.

At the beginning of January 2016, she founded the feminist reading group Our Shared Shelf (our shared bookshelf) on the Amazon- owned platform Goodreads under the slogan "Feminism is for everyone", which already had over 100,000 members within a month and became the largest group on the platform. Involvement in the Panama Papers affair

Emma Watson acquired a property valued at over $ 1 million through a mailbox company founded in 2013 . An official spokesman said this was done to protect the actress' privacy; she has no monetary advantage from this arrangement. She has also bought an apartment for £ 2.8 million through her offshore company Falling Leaves Ltd in the British Virgin Islands .
