HeForShe is a non-profit solidarity campaign by UN Women , a charitable subsidiary of the United Nations , which is committed to women's rights and equality between men and women worldwide . The campaign is financed through donations and grants. In Germany , HeForShe is represented and coordinated by the UN Women National Committee Germany eV association. In Austria, the UN Women National Committee Austria, in cooperation with two local HeForShe organizations in Vienna and Graz, represents the concerns of HeForShe.

aims

The aim is to win men and boys as supporters for a change towards the realization of gender equality, to encourage them to fight for more women's rights and to take active action against inequalities. Based on the idea that gender equality is a problem that affects all people and this in social, economic and political terms, it tries to involve men and boys in a movement that was originally conceived as a “struggle by women for women” . The solidarity campaign covers the topics of education, politics, violence, work, health and identity. The campaign reached more than 1.2 billion people worldwide on social media.

founding

The film actress Emma Watson is "the face" of the campaign. In 2014 she was appointed UN Special Envoy for Women's Rights, and in the same year she launched the HeForShe campaign together with UN Women. Since then, she has represented the campaign in public and takes part in every major event to attract people to the solidarity movement. At the start of HeForShe, Emma Watson gave a speech at the United Nations at the end of 2014, which caused a sensation worldwide. With the words "Both men and women should be allowed to feel sensitive, both men and women should be allowed to feel strong", she campaigned for more equality and a rethink in society.

ambassador

For International Women's Day 2018, the national committee UN Women Germany launched a HeForShe ambassador program. Six volunteer ambassadors support the campaign and are publicly committed to gender issues. The appointed ambassadors are the activist and advisor, Robert Franken, the authors and activists Vincent-Immanuel Herr and Martin Speer , psychologist Gerhard Hafner, the author Fikri Anıl Altıntaş and the scientist Dr. Joy Asongazoh Alemazung.

IMPACT 10x10x10 initiative

The IMPACT 10x10x10 Pilot Initiative was presented by Emma Watson at a UN Women press conference in early 2015 as part of the HeForShe campaign. The founding members of the initiative include Prime Ministers Stefan Löfven (Sweden) and Mark Rutte (Netherlands) and President Ernest Bai Koroma ( Sierra Leone ). Further features include Paul Polman (CEO of Unilever ), Dennis Nally (Chairman of PricewaterhouseCoopers ) and Rick Goings (Chairman of Tupperware ) to the founding members. The title sponsor of the HeForShe initiative is JPMorgan Chase .

The aim of the IMPACT 10x10x10 Pilot Initiative is to end inequalities between men and women in companies and governments worldwide.
