Kiefer Sutherland
Kiefer William Frederick Dempsey George Rufus Sutherland (born December 21, 1966 in London , England ) is a Canadian actor and musician .
Life
Kiefer Sutherland is the son of actors Donald Sutherland and Shirley Douglas and the maternal grandson of Tommy Douglas , a former Prime Minister of the Canadian province of Saskatchewan . He has a twin sister named Rachel and four half siblings.
Sutherland got his unusual first name from Warren Kiefer , the director who gave his father Donald his first film role in 1964. The large number of middle names were also chosen by Sutherland's father out of gratitude to the namesake. According to Kiefer Sutherland's own information, all first names except for “Rufus” can be assigned to the people who are dedicated in this way. Kiefer graduated from the Silverthorn Collegiate Institute in Etobicoke , Toronto .
Kiefer Sutherland began his film career in 1983 with the film Max Dugan's Moneten , in which he played Donald Sutherland with his father . He achieved his breakthrough a year later with the film The Bay Boy , for which he was honored with the nomination for the Genie Award , the Canadian equivalent of the Oscar .
Two years later he directed the drama Stand By Me and appeared in the 1987 vampire thriller The Lost Boys . The psychological thriller Flatliners helped him achieve his final breakthrough in Hollywood in 1990 . During this time a relationship with Julia Roberts began , which broke up shortly before the planned wedding in the summer of 1991.
In the mid-1990s, Sutherland fell into a career slump. Good role offers did not materialize because he was only committed to the role of the villain. After less successful films such as Frankie the Fly , Dark City , Break Up - Nackte Angst , Visions of Death and I just got my wife apart , Sutherland made his comeback in the Fox real-time series 24 with the role of Federal Agent Jack Bauer. In 2002 he received the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor, the Screen Actors Guild Award, and an Emmy Award in 2006 . Sutherland received a total of around $ 40 million in gage for the lead role in seasons 6 to 8, which makes him the highest-paid TV actor in the world. In December 2008, Sutherland was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame .
In September 2011, Fox ordered a mystery series with Touch with Sutherland in the lead role. The broadcast of the series began in January 2012 and ended in May 2013. Furthermore, Sutherland was in the political thriller Designated Survivor in the lead role from 2016 to 2019 . There he played the newly appointed President of the United States after a terrorist attack .
In 1997, Sutherland made his screen director debut with the cinema production Place of Truth . Since 1994 he has also been working as a television producer . Among other things, he was active as a producer and executive producer for the successful series 24 .
For the German-speaking area, Sutherland is mostly dubbed by Tobias Meister .
In addition to his acting career, he works as a music producer and singer and runs the independent label Ironworks together with Jude Cole . Sutherland released the album Down in a Hole in 2016 , he wrote and composed the lyrics with Cole.
