Forsaken is a 2015 Canadian-American western directed by Jon Cassar , whose lead actor Kiefer and his father Donald Sutherland appear for the first time in a film in several joint scenes. It premiered at the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival .

action

Wyoming 1872: John Henry Clayton returns to his hometown tired of the Civil War and his subsequent work as a gunslinger . His relationship with father William, who is the pastor of the place, has been largely destroyed because of his career as a killer, even if he has since renounced killing. There, the unscrupulous businessman James McCurdy is after farmers' lands. To achieve this goal, he has hired a gang that, despite its level-headed leader, "Gentleman" Dave Turner, does not shy away from murder. Inwardly troubled, John Henry endures both the criminal events, which also affect his former and now married love Mary-Alice, as well as further provocations of the gang, which even brutally beat him up. However, his relationship with his father has gradually improved. When he falls victim to a near-fatal assassination attempt by McCurdy's men, John Henry finally breaks his vow never to kill again ...

background

Forsaken is the third joint film with Donald and Kiefer Sutherland. In Kiefer's acting debut Max Dugan's Moneten from 1983, the two only had a short scene with each other, in Die Jury from 1996 none at all.

criticism

“Director Jon Cassar provides us with a calm, interesting and exciting western that will especially delight fans of the genre. Together with his duo Donald and Kiefer Sutherland there is also an acting gem that should be seen. Perhaps this will be the only opportunity to see both legends together on the screen (or in the home theater). "

- Thomas Repenning, Moviebreak.de

“[...] the suspense fits, the plot finds a good balance between many calm moments serving the development of the characters and their relationships and a few dosed eruptions of violence. A lot of things will seem familiar to the experienced Western movie viewer, which prevents the classification in the rank of a great late western. Fans of the genre can look forward to a solid contribution that keeps the western alive - that's something. "
