Brian Denis Cox , CBE (born June 1, 1946 in Dundee , Scotland ) is a British actor .

Life

Cox was born and raised in Dundee. He is the youngest of five children and was raised mainly by his older sisters as his mother regularly suffered from health problems. His father, a butcher, died when Cox was eight years old. At the age of fourteen he was a member of an active theater company in Dundee.

He later studied acting at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art and made a name for himself in theater and British television. After countless appearances over many years - best known for his appearance as Hannibal Lecter (shown in the film as a leak gate) in Blood Moon , before Anthony Hopkins became a legend five years later in this role - he became a legend in the mid-1990s through supporting roles in the films Rob Roy and Braveheart known. In the latter film he played Argyle Wallace, the uncle of the main character William Wallace.

In the following years, Cox was cast as a villain or as a shady character in the background in many films: he played the opaque Richard Morgan in Ring , the power-hungry King Agamemnon in Troy , the mutant hater William Stryker in X-Men 2 , Reichsmarschall Hermann Göring in Nuremberg - In the name of humanity and the corrupt CIA man Ward Abott in The Bourne Identity and The Bourne Conspiracy . He achieved a great artistic success in 2001 through his portrayal of a pedophile in the film LIE - Long Island Expressway .

On New Year's Day 2002, Cox was appointed Commander of the British Empire by the British Queen .

Cox is diabetic . He is married to actress Nicole Ansari , with whom he has two children. The family currently lives in New York City . From his first marriage he is the father of two children, including his son Alan Cox , who is also an actor.
