Corruptor - In the sign of corruption (Original title: The Corruptor ) is an American action film directed by James Foley from 1999 .

action

Police officer Nick Chen serves in the Chinatown neighborhood of New York . There the gangs of the Tongs and the Fukienese Dragons compete. Chen made an arrangement with the chiefs of the underworld there.

The graduate of the Police Academy Danny Wallace, fascinated by China and Chinese culture, is assigned to Chen as a partner. Wallace imitates his experienced colleague and works for the criminal Henry Lee, for which he receives benefits and information from him. A series of murders creates tension in the district.

The FBI demands that Wallace, who works for the "Internal", provide evidence against Chen, particularly after Chen exposes an undercover FBI agent in Henry Lee's gang, which means his death. On a ship with Chinese illegally transported to the USA, there is a showdown in which Wallace and Chen fight against the Chinese mafiosi. Chen is shot in the process and succumbs to his injuries in the hospital. Chen is later ceremonially buried.

Reviews

Desson Howe wrote in the Washington Post that the film focused on volume rather than originality. Chow Yun-Fat is more acting than in his first US film, The Replacement Killers .

Roger Ebert wrote in the Chicago Sun-Times that the film is not in the same league as Hard Boiled by John Woo located. The character of Louise Deng is poorly developed or the editing is bad, because a love affair requires dialogue. James Foley's direction is bad.

The lexicon of international films judged: "Quickly tiresome police film, which at most marginally varies the familiar" buddy "theme of relevant role models and does not come up with exciting entertainment or convincing actors."
